The Ventura Film Festival proudly holds the distinction of being "the largest film festival ever held in Ventura County." This impressive distinction demonstrates the event's devotion to showcasing international filmmaking to Ventura County while preserving its dedication to critical environmental causes.

The Ventura Film Festival exists as an unrestricted genre international film festival that generates attention toward environmental issues such as terrestrial and aquatic preservation and renewal, by means of a yearly cinema celebration and connected programs. The festival utilizes the power of cinema to motivate engagement and develop substantial discourse on these pressing environmental challenges.

The Ventura Film Festival originated in 2004 and has displayed hundreds of movies, usually over 200 films each summer, and has attracted attention from the global cinema community. Throughout its history, the event has transformed into a prominent cultural occasion that assembles cinematic professionals, conservation enthusiasts, and participants from diverse international locations.

Significant highlights have been featuring distinguished filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the pioneering world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend together with Ian Cairns, quadruple world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA athlete the legendary Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story, which involved hosting the full Academy Award winning cast from West Side Story, featuring Oscar winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris as well as Golden Globe winner/Academy Award nominated Russ Tamblyn. The founding executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was chosen to participate, together with many SUMMER FILM FESTIVAL of Hollywood's biggest stars, in the 50-year anniversary event of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Oscar winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, along with Golden Globe honoree Russ Tamblyn at the iconic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This celebration also functioned as the official BluRay launch by Fox and MGM of the timeless West Side Story, which is commonly viewed by critics and fans as the greatest musical of all time. This prestigious recognition and participation highlights the festival's meaningful presence and esteemed status within the entertainment industry.
